A WhatFont alternative

What WhatFont does well, where PikSpec differs, and how to choose. We make PikSpec, so we have kept this to what each tool's own listing says.

In short: PikSpec is a free Chrome extension that covers what most people use WhatFont for and adds a full design system view (fonts, colours, spacing, radius and shadows) with exports as design tokens, a DESIGN.md and AI Kits. If you only ever need the name of one font and nothing else, WhatFont is quick and does exactly that.

Where PikSpec is different

PikSpec shows the whole type scale, not one font: every size the page uses with its family and weight, so you can see the system rather than one sample.

It checks which face actually rendered. A font stack lists fallbacks; when a custom font fails to load, PikSpec reports the fallback visitors really saw.

Beyond fonts, it reads the colours, spacing, radii and shadows, and exports everything as tokens or an AI Kit.

Does PikSpec work like WhatFont?

Similar first step, more after it: click any text to see its font, then open Styles for every font, size and weight on the page.
